A Day in the Life of Illinois Timberdoodlers

Hello! I’m Alison, homeschool mom and Zumba instructor. My husband, Danny, does janitorial work in the wee hours of the morning. Our kids, AJ (8) and Gavin (4) enjoy caring for our Pomeranian, Maya, our turtles, Charizard and Pikachu, and our newest addition, Dahlia the bearded dragon.

AJ enjoys reading, archery, and dodgeball.

Gavin loves all things Lego, bike riding, and Mo Willems books.

Our Morning:

On a typical school day, AJ and I are up at 7:00AM, reading Bibles, caring for pets, eating breakfast (cereal or toast), and sneaking in as much play time as possible before we start our school routine at 9:00AM.

We do math lessons from Math You See, practice with worksheets, manipulatives, and games until 9:45, when we switch gears to English. We do copywork from Scripture for handwriting, our Usborne creative writing book, Spelling You See, and First Language Lessons.

We try to sneak all of that in (including plenty of movement and brain breaks as needed) before a 10:30 recess.

Gavin usually joins us around 10:00 and works on activities I pull together for him based on his letter, number, and shape of the week.

Our Afternoon:

At 11:15 I cook soup, grilled cheese, salad or the likes. We eat at noon, clean up together and do chores.

At 1:00PM we have independent reading time, when everyone reads quietly in their bed or a comfy spot.

We then work through Apologia Botany at 1:30PM.

The Story of the World (Middle Ages) history is next at 2:00PM.

The last half hour of our school day is dedicated to an elective: art, piano lessons, geography, STEAM, or health.

Usually I head off at this point to teach a Zumba class and the boys read, play, go to a park district activity (archery, dodgeball, hockey, or chess) or play on the tablet if their checklist is finished.

Our Evening:

We try to have dinner at 6:00PM every day. Oftentimes it’s later because I sometimes need to cook after my Zumba class. Our favorite is tacos made from a seasoned chuck roast in the slow cooker.
We usually end the day with baths, a bedtime snack, prayer, and reading.

Just for Fun:

We attend several park district activities. Gavin usually takes a 1.5 hour class (soccer, basketball, tumbling, and fitness), twice a week. That gives me some alone time with AJ to work on anything we’re struggling with or behind on. It interrupts our mornings but has been valuable for one on one time and for Gavin to make new friends.

AJ’s activities (archery, dodgeball, chess, soccer, and hockey) are after our school time, but they have been good opportunities to do the same with Gavin: catch up and work on anything we’re struggling with.

Both boys are involved in AWANA, which they really enjoy. AJ finished 3 Sparks books this year!

A Day in the Life of California Timberdoodlers

Hi there! Let me introduce you to the Dale family.

The Papa in our family works very hard all day at a school software company so I can stay home and play with the kids.

James, who just turned 3, is obsessed with the color orange, loves our neighbor’s cat “Twinkles” (probably because he’s orange) (also, the cat’s real name is D.J.) and would watch Puffin Rock on Netflix every day if Mama would let him. She does not.

The youngest in our family, Andrew, is 16 months old, adores his brother and is in the stage where putting things inside things is the BEST. THING. EVER. To him, not necessarily to me when I’m looking for my comb and find it 2 days later in a kitchen pot.

My name is Danielle, and I love singing, all the coffee, a clean house and corny jokes. I’m also embarking upon a new journey… preschool homeschooling!

Our Morning:

I could write about one of our days last week at Family Camp, which would be full of fun pool adventures, Santa Cruz boardwalk rides, pancake breakfasts and playtime, but I thought a typical day might be best for someone who wants a peek into a regular day with two kids under 3.

Today started like most, with my 16-month-old waking up first around 7:15. Actually, he usually wakes up at 6:30 so this was a sleep-in! James, my 3-year-old, followed shortly thereafter because they share a room. I give Andrew some milk and let him wake up slowly and James and I usually talk about the day. Today, I got them both dressed before heading downstairs. Often we stay in our p.j.’s until after breakfast.

We had scrambled eggs for breakfast, along with a banana, some toast with jam and a few slices of Canadian bacon. This sounds delightful (and it was) but it was mixed in with potty training with James (usually needs help wiping), changing a diaper for Andrew, giving James medicine, picking up toys here and there, making coffee, giving James juice, helping James set the table (he puts out the plates and bibs and napkins) and so on.

Seeing as today is Monday, our gardener came by to mow the lawn and tend to the plants/shrubs. It’s always a highlight for our week, that and Tuesday, which is garbage day. 🙂

By the time breakfast is over and dishes are rinsed (not put into the dishwasher because I’ve gotten interrupted a few times) Andrew is ready for a 9:30 nap. He goes down really easily–a kiss from brother, me, and then a quick song.

Then James and I start “school” time. I paid a few bills while James played with Morph. Yesterday we did a lot of book work, so today is more hands on. I encouraged him today to try new things with Morph, kind of like unstructured play time. Often, I give specifics like, “Let’s make a nest and some bird eggs…see, roll it like this to make an egg.” He then moved on to Dominos, again, with a more unstructured playtime. He built a house, and I was really proud of him because it was 2 stories!

We then went outside and he played with bubbles and then we watered the plants and looked for snails.

Our Afternoon:

Lunch was a “snack tray.” I like doing this when I’m low on groceries or when it’s hot outside (I don’t like preparing food when it’s 90 outside). It was turkey breast, string cheese, apple slices, strawberry yogurt and something else I can’t remember. 🙂 (It’s a good thing I didn’t try to write about a different day, I wouldn’t remember anything!)

After lunch it’s “rest time” for James. He only actually sleeps a few times a month, but we almost always put him down for rest time. He has to stay in his bed, sometimes he gets a toy or two or a book, it just depends on if he’s really tired and looks like he might actually sleep. Andrew also takes a nap, but in a Pack ‘n Play in another room so they don’t wake/keep each other up.

During their naps is when I try to do computer stuff, like pay bills or catch up on texts or something. I try not to be on my phone or computer too much with the kids around because it’s distracting and I find myself getting frustrated if I keep getting interrupted, which I always do because screens are like magnets to little ones. Plus, it’s a good example, I think, to limit it, but of course work does need to get done.

When I’m exhausted, I’ll eat my lunch and watch a short movie. Today, I played a game on my phone and ate lunch and I think I started a load of laundry and did some tidying.

Our Evening:

After the boys got up (neither slept, but both looked rested) we did a lot of reading.

We read:
Number Work (preschool work)
Dear Zoo
Map Work (preschool work)
White on Black
Goodnight, Hawaiian Moon
Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me
Silly Goose
Castles (a flip up the flap book)
Trains Go

Dinner was chicken nuggets for the boys, along with some applesauce. My hubby and I had some work to catch up on so we had mac’n’cheese and tuna.

Our boys’ bedtime is 6:30 but we were running a little late, so they were in bed by 7:00.

Matt and I swept through the house to pick up toys and tidy. Matt did dishes while I called my youngest brother to say hi, and then called my Dad.

I went outside to pick some flowers for vases in the house and got the mail (and almost tripped over Twinkles who likes our front porch). I’m currently writing this up while Matt finishes up a video presentation for work tomorrow.

Just for Fun:

We did music lessons last year and I’m considering it again, but it’s expensive and my 3-year-old tends to pick up sickness any time he’s around kids. We’re currently getting over colds.

I’m also considering swim lessons.

Even though we have no extracurriculars, we do make plans throughout the week. We have a park date once a week or so (sometimes by ourselves, but often with another mom and her kids), we plan activities like going to a splash pad, going to the airport to watch planes, visiting Gigi (Great Grandma) and taking adventure walks around our house.

A Day in the Life of Morocco Timberdoodlers

A

Hi! I am Allison, a homeschooling mom of Angelina, 10 years old.

We moved to another country and now get to spend all the time in the world together!

We like to start a day with a walk to the souk (market) and pick out whatever we need for the day. Angelina loves to see all the animals roaming around everywhere here, donkeys and horse buggies, cows roaming the street. It’s a lot different than back home on Florida. Angelina has a big heart for animals, so will always save some dinner to bring out and feed stray cats.

We love spending lazy days at the beach, or exploring our city.

Our Morning:

On a typical day, I will always wake up first. Being in Morocco, we have the luxury of a later schedule so we do sleep in.

Angelina gets up around 9:00 and will make her bed and straighten her room up. If Mom makes breakfast Angelina will get started on her independent work, or else she will make her own breakfast. She loves rice cakes with peanut-butter and apple slices.

We will start school after breakfast. We use Timberdoodle custom curriculum with a couple local geography add-ins.

Angelina doesn’t mind her chores of doing dishes and sweeping the floors.

Our Afternoon:

After lunch we do our review of our previous day’s work, making sure she fully understands her math lessons and vocab words. Then we do math and science together.

Sometimes we will go to the beach to walk around the board walk.

Angelina loves building robots with her science kit, so if we stay home she will be found tinkering away in her room.

She has an hour of reading that she will split up before dinner and bedtime.

Our Evening:

I usually cook a traditional Moroccan dinner called a tagine. It’s made in a special pot where it gets its name from. Consists of veggies and meat all layered and slow roasted. We eat by scooping it up with bread!

High points is when I see Angelina learning and retaining new things. Low points is missing family back in Florida.

We end the day with some screen time, either a movie or games in the tablet. Then we read a book and go to bed.

Just for Fun:

We meet up with other kids here in Morocco. It helps Angelina learning the language here.

We like to go visit farms and pick vegetables and fruits, or try and catch chickens.

We don’t have much of a routine but try to get a weekly outing together depending on what we are learning. When learning about erosion, we went to the beach. When learning about animals and ecosystems we went to the zoo.

A Day in the Life of Massachusetts Timberdoodlers

Hi! My name is Cassie-Lee and we are just beginning our homeschool journey.

I’m a registered nurse that works part time overnight. My husband is in finance. We have two daughters.

Charlotte is almost 4 and loves books, singing and dancing.

Beatrice is almost 2 and loves to do everything her sister does.

Our family loves to have dance parties in our kitchen!

Our Morning:

My husband gets up with the kids first around 6:15a. He usually feeds them breakfast before I come downstairs.

Our early mornings are usually quiet once my husband leaves for work. After I eat breakfast, I work on cleaning up the kitchen. The kids are usually playing on the floor or looking through picture books.

Once the kitchen is clean, I pull out our school stuff. We use a relaxed work box system.

Charlotte’s system is 8-10 boxes and Beatrice’s system is 6 boxes. Bea’s boxes are filled with different activities like learning sticker books, hand eye coordination toys and stem toys. Charlotte’s first box is always her journal. I make up a different prompt for each day. She loves drawing pictures to answer it. Then all of the other drawers have items that are switched out depending on the day.

This year, I did a customized Timberdoodle curriculum, with kindergarten and pre-k items. The only non-Timberdoodle item we use is All About Reading. Her absolute favorite thing to do every day is Math-U-See. Our school day for Charlotte usually lasts about 45 min to a hour in the mornings.

Our Afternoon:

For lunch, we usually have roasted or grilled chicken (cold) along with some fruit and veggies and hummus dip.

Both of my girls still nap, which happens after lunch. They sleep for about 2 hours.

Once they wake up, we usually spend the afternoon outside, if the weather is nice. They love exploring outside and riding their bikes and trikes.

Once we come back inside, we color or do crafts.

Our Evening:

I start dinner at around 5:20. While I’m cooking, the kids love to listen to music and dance.

We sit down to dinner about 6:00-6:15. The girls help me set the table. At dinner, we talk about our day.

After dinner, we clean up the kitchen.

After dinner is quiet time where we read or watch a television show.

Bedtime starts around 7:00pm. After baths, we read stories.

Then the kids are in bed by 7:45-8:00pm.

Just for Fun:

Both kids take swim lessons.

Charlotte also participates in dance and soccer.

We have multiple memberships to local museums, so we try to travel to one each week.

On days when the kids have lessons, our schooling gets moved to the late morning or afternoon.

We school year around, so we have a bit more flexibility on missing days too.

We are Adrienne and Kendall, homeschool parents to three girls ages 5, 3, and one month.

Our family loves spending time together building wood projects and working on our home together, gardening and being outdoors.

Our Morning:

Today Mom got up first and got the day started with some homemade waffles! Yum! There are two of us who eat them with blueberries and two who prefer just syrup.

After we were all up and fed we had some time cleaning up breakfast, unloading the dishwasher and vacuuming.

We take care of our friend’s two kids while their parents are at work so they came over and we got to ride our bikes and play for a bit.

We start school after we have had a chance to play and get out some energy! We all have our own desks we helped build and paint so that is where we sit for school. We start with a Bible story, follow-up questions and a prayer. We take turns having Mommy and Daddy help the two older girls with school and we get to choose which subject we want to do first. After about two hours of work we have completed most of our school subjects.

Our Afternoon:

Mommy makes lunch, the kids play, and Daddy either helps prepare lunch or plays fun silly tickle games or pushes the kids on the swings.

We eat a nice big homemade lunch and eat together at the table as a family.

After lunch it is time for Daddy to go to work so we send him off with lots of hugs and kisses! Sometimes the girls cry, they really miss Daddy while he is gone.

Then for our afternoon we finish any school that is not yet done. We usually save the hands-on elements of Timberdoodle for this time of day. We like Day and Night, Geopuzzles, the cookie game and science experiments best! Once we are done with school we play outside or do a craft inside of it is cold or rainy.

Our Evening:

For dinner we usually do something quick like a PB&J sandwich with strawberries and sliced bell peppers.

Then we clean up our school room and toy room and our friend’s Mom comes to pick them up. We love having them come play but we enjoy our quiet evenings with just Mommy the little girls.

We always end the day with at least 30 minutes of storybook reading while snuggling on the couch.

Then we brush our teeth, get PJs on and set out our clothes for the morning. We talk about our favorite parts of the day, pray and sing a couple songs. Mommy climbs up on the bunk bed and lays with each of the big girls for a few minutes to get a final big snuggle before sleep.

Then Mommy gets to spend the rest of the night cleaning, relaxing and spending time with baby who gets to stay up later.

Just for Fun:

We have dance class on Friday mornings so we plan on having a lighter day of schoolwork and we do not start until after lunch.

A Day in the Life of Oregon Timberdoodlers

Lorie here. There are 10 of us, and we are a generally happy and fairly boring lot on the whole.

Father is self employed. Mother (yours truly) has been home schooling for the last 25 years. Methinks I’m getting the hang of it now!

Most of the offspring have grown into hard working, good citizens, who love Jesus. The youngest two are; Boy (age 14), and Girl (age 12). Boy and Girl are involved in Civil Air Patrol and enjoy a variety of other things.

The livestock at present includes one cat and seven chickens.

Our Morning:

Monday! I love Mondays! It’s the day Aunt L. comes and gives Boy and Girl art lessons. It’s also the day we actually get through most of our subjects.

I’m up at 5:30; B and G are up early enough to make french toast if G does chicken duty for B so he can get the skillet ready.

School starts at 8:15, so it’s quite possible that breakfast will be partaken of during an online history lesson. Our curriculum is a combination of material from several sources to fit our needs and interests. Three years ago I learned of the Teaching Textbooks Math from Timberdoodle and it has been wonderful.

Our Afternoon:

You’d think that after french toast for breakfast, the kids wouldn’t be hungry for lunch so early. Well, it is 11:30 and we’re pulling out leftovers.

Piano lessons are this afternoon, so we need to get started on logic class after our repast. It would be good to finish that science project, too. Hmmm….I reckon we should get the dishes done, as well. Oh, I forgot about track practice. Well, I think we have time.

Our Evening:

It’s Monday, so we all get to sit down to dinner together. The kids are ready to eat after running! Easy meal tonight, taco salads—everyone loves them. We talk about how track went, and argue about–I mean discuss–who should put the chickens to bed since G did them for B this morning, and we wonder if the boots will be dry by morning. Father reads from Genesis and we discuss how God changes people’s names.

We clean up after dinner and I go hide away with my book. The kids and Father are hiding with their books, too. Soon it will be bedtime, but right now it’s just quiet.

Just for Fun:

Sometimes I wonder if I’m too enthusiastic about the extras. Actually, I don’t need to wonder–I am too quick to sign up for something that seems profitable for B and G. Not sure what to give up, though, since they/we love it all.

Only one sport in fall and spring, so that’s okay.

Music lessons abound, but G likes her instruments.

4-H is only chess club and sewing–not too much, eh?

CAP is a good way to learn routine, and the leaders are so nice.

Bible study on Tuesday nights. We need that.

Then there’s the odd jobs that come around. Oh well, yes, it’s a lot of running. Yes, it interrupts school at times. Yes, we sometimes forget what we’re doing. And, YES, we are grateful for the opportunities!

A Day in the Life of Minnesota Timberdoodlers

Hey we are the Fiin+Filbert family–Fiinbert! I’m mom–Nisa. I run two businesses of my own (essential oils and photography), I’m obsessed with books and I stay home with our boys.

Keaton is 8 and is into all things Legos, loves to draw and is fully a dog whisperer.

Ollie is 5 (and a half!) and is a roller-coaster of emotion and energy, loves Legos and playing any game ever, including games he makes up on the daily.

Dad, Ben, works at the Air Force Base fixing planes and is a very handy nerd.

My mom, “Gaga” to the boys, also lives with us. She works four days a week and loves to garden and read to the boys.

We also have two dogs- Rosie (Carolina Dog) and Squid (Pit Bull)- who were supposed to be temporary fosters… but they made it clear they were part of our family. We continue to foster dogs, but I have had to promise we won’t keep any more. 😉

Tuesday, June 27

Our Morning:

The boys had swimming lessons this morning, and being that they had to get up early they, of course, wanted to sleep in. (Totally opposite on days we have nothing scheduled!)

I roused them out of bed at 8:15 am and sat them in front of their breakfast–French toast with peanut butter and maple syrup, bacon and sliced strawberries.

I showered and got ready while the boys got their swimming things gathered and got their suits on.

Ollie had his lesson first, followed by Keaton. Both boys have their favorite instructor this session and they are pretty geeked.

After swimming lessons, we headed to the library to pick up some books for our author/illustrator study on Marla Frazee (through Read-Aloud-Revival) and some more books about the Revolutionary War, which both boys are very into right now.

Our homeschool style tends to be pretty “natural learning” based and I am all about following the boys’ interests- and reading A LOT. Once we have our giant book bag filled with books (seriously, it’s always a little ridiculous… 73 this time. HA!) we headed over to grab smoothies and muffins for lunch and headed home.

Our Afternoon:

Once home, the boys were looking for some downtime- they were quite tired after the morning’s events.

I read all the new Marla Frazee books and we talked about other books we know that she has illustrated because her style is so distinct.

Then Keaton wanted some space (he’s the introvert) and time to draw alone, so Ollie and I went to go look at his What Do People Do All Day? book.

After they had rested a bit, the boys headed outside to clear some of our woods of the nettles and “itch-weed” that has started to take over the paths. Ollie and I also checked out the milkweed in the area to see if there were any new monarch eggs. We currently have three chrysalis’s and three caterpillars- so we are on the hunt for more eggs!

Our Evening:

We did an easy dinner of sandwiches and fruit tonight.

Keaton had a Cub Scout meeting at 6:30, and we wanted to be sure he’d be ready to go in plenty of time.

After we ate dinner and cleared the table together- the boys headed outside to ride bikes a bit before Keaton and Dad left for Scouts. The boys had races and did tricks up and down the long driveway.

At about 6:00, Keaton and Ben left for the meeting and Ollie and I gathered up what library books we wanted to be sure to read before bed. He and I played a game of Uno and then had cereal for a snack before getting ready for bed. Jammies on, teeth brushed and we climbed into Mom+Dad’s bed to read and wait for Keaton to come home and join us for stories and snuggles.

Just for Fun:

Mondays we have a standing “In the Woods” play-date at our house- friends/kids are invited to come over and play outside in our yard/woods from 10:00am-3:00pm.

That evening Ollie has “Ninja Zone” class – a tumbling/martial arts/stunt class.

Tuesdays, both boys are in swimming lessons.

Thursday mornings Keaton has horseback riding lessons.

Coming up in July and August the boys will have baseball once a week.

We try to find that fine balance between not having too many things scheduled- but making sure the boys get plenty of time and activities with friends/other kiddos/adults.

A Day in the Life of New York Timberdoodlers

A

Hey Hey! I’m Luanna. We are an adoptive family with three children ages 5, 4, and 3. My husband is a technical trainer and I am a business owner who works from home.

We love to travel and experience new places. One of our favorite places is always a beautiful beach, anywhere! We could spend hours just playing in the sand and building sand castles as a family.

Our Morning:

Typically we start our day off when everyone gets up. I do not wake the kids. They get up on their own times, which is a huge blessing, because when I worked outside the home I would need to wake the kids up and it would be a grumpy morning getting things done.

After everyone is awake we have breakfast. I sip on some tea or coffee to get myself going and then we start our work boxes.

We usually do school in our PJs. When we are done with our work boxes by mid morning, we get dressed for the day.

Our Afternoon:

In the afternoon we usually head outdoors in some capacity. Our kids love to ride their bicycles, play in the dirt and mulch and toss around balls in our yard.

Some days we meet up with friends at a library, park or farmers market or picnic. On snowy days, of course, we have to build a snowman.

Our Evening:

In the evening we wind down for the day.

The kids have some free time and most often grab some ThinkPlay, Plus-Plus or STEM activity or drawing to do together.

We then end with movie night about twice a week.

Just for Fun:

Our oldest has piano lessons once a week which takes us a total of an hour outside the home. On these days we usually do something else, like gymnastics or go window shopping, or picnic and play at the park.

We also have a local homeschool play group once a week for 2 hours and weekly Mommy and Me group which is 3 hours every other week.

Some weeks it can feel overwhelming especially if we are behind in schooling. But for some reason, it all worked out and we were able to complete all our curriculum with ease this first year of homeschooling as a family. I’ve learned a lot that I’ve already started to make some changes to get us prepared for this upcoming year.

A Day in the Life of Kansas Timberdoodlers

Greetings from our homeschool family! My name is Erin and I stay home with our three young children. My husband works in insurance and finds himself traveling for work quite a bit. While he is away, I hold the fort down for my three girls.

Olivia (7) is our oldest, then Bella (4), and Lily (2) always brings up the caboose.

Our family loves to spend time outdoors and spend time fostering friendships and with extended family.

Our Morning:

A typical day for us is pretty flexible, yet we still try to follow a regular routine. With three little ones, it’s important for us to stay flexible.

Our girls are usually up and around by 7:30 when we share a quick breakfast, along with me reading our family read-aloud while everyone is enjoying their breakfast.

Following breakfast, my older girls unload the dishwasher, get dressed and groomed and make their beds. Those are some of their family chores.

Sometimes the girls have some free play time for a bit after this, but I find it’s helpful to delve into our school first thing.

Our oldest just completed her Kindergarten year, so we do very light academics. A little reading, a little math, a little copywork that helps with her handwriting practice. We also took a trip around the world this year, learning about other cultures with living books and some activities. My daughter was especially interested in other countries and what people and animals lived there, so that was our focus this year.

I put together various curriculums for our subjects this year and am grateful for some of Timberdoodle‘s suggestions! While I am working with my older daughter, usually my younger two play freely together. My four-year-old will sometimes listen alongside, trace letters in sand or work on mazes and puzzles.

Our Afternoon:

Lunch is simple, like sandwiches or cheese and crackers with a fruit plate.

After lunch, the younger girls nap while Olivia has an hour of quiet time in her room. She typically listens to a book on tape while playing quietly. This sacred hour gives me a nice break in my day for some personal reading time, exercise or a nap!

After that hour, Olivia and I usually read together some more which the younger ones join in on as they wake up.

The rest of the afternoon is spent in free play. Sometimes I structure this with going to the park, nature trails or another fun activity, but typically they are happy to play with each other at home. We believe, at this age, lots of learning happens through free, uninterrupted play.

During this time, I can work on some house work or light hobbies. (I love to sew and scrapbook.)

Our Evening:

When my husband is traveling, we eat dinner earlier, but if he is home, we usually don’t start dinner prep until 5:30 or 6:00 as he won’t be home for family dinner until 7:00.

We do a clean sweep of the house to tidy our toys and books and the girls help with some of the meal prep and will set the table.

We value family dinners – sitting around the same table, sharing food and conversations about our day.

While I clean up dinner, the girls love to play with Dad! They have waited all day to see him so we love the days he is not traveling and he can spend the evenings with us. Dad will also typically get the girls ready for bed and then we share the tuck-in time (a bedtime book and prayers).

Just for Fun:

During the school year, we participate in a homeschool co-op twice a month on Wednesdays. This entails a parent led class day and other field trip opportunities throughout the year. This enriches our social life, as well as our learning.

Also, our two older girls take a ballet and tap class. One those evenings, we aren’t home during dinner prep time and I usually have put something in the crockpot for us. I absolutely love the convenience of my crockpot!

Hello! We are a family of 4. Dad is a programmer. Mom is full-time with the little ones – Aky, 4, and Eli, 2.

We live with 3 dogs and the kids love them. We also have a garden, where we plant random seeds from the fruits and vegetables we eat.

We love playing board games and traveling. (Hopefully, we’ll get to do more of this.) Things can be chaotic around the house, but that’s part of the fun!

Our Morning:

Although we follow a routine to get through our day, we are not too rigid about it.

The kids start the day with oatmeal, while Mom does some chores.

Aky and Eli look forward to watering the plants (and themselves!) and playing with the dogs.

After bathing, Aky will do some lessons with Mom, while Eli either plays on his own or copies his sister. We just recently bought our first Timberdoodle kit and we look forward to it!

Our Afternoon:

Lunch mostly comprises of some healthy grains and a small portion of meat, with lots of vegetables and fruits.

After nap and a snack, we ride the bike to the playground.

Once in a while, mom finds an excuse to go out but still be productive, so she brings the kids to run some errands.

Our Evening:

Dinner is same with lunch to save time on cooking.

The kids can play or do some lessons while mom cleans up.

We end the day with violin practice and look forward to reading time.

Once mom has the small ones asleep, she does more chores or prepares some lessons for the next day.

Just for Fun:

Sunday mornings involve violin lessons.

We start Tuesday and Thursday with swimming lessons.

Homeschooling co-op is Thursday afternoons. We either go to museums, parks, or the host’s place.

We’ll be adding more activities as the kids nap less.
